Discuss a Client Technology Situation

CONFIDENTIAL PARTNER CONVERSATION

A confidential conversation about a client’s technology concerns, risks or next steps.

If a client is facing a technology problem and you are unsure what support they need, book a confidential conversation with me. We can discuss the situation, identify the key issues and decide whether independent technology advice could help. There is no obligation to make an introduction. The initial conversation is simply a practical way to work out the best next step.

I bring more than 35 years of technology experience, including CTO and senior technology leadership roles, helping businesses make sense of complex technology, delivery and leadership challenges.

Discuss Your Client’s Technology Concerns in Confidence

You do not need to diagnose a technology problem before making an introduction.

Perhaps a client’s software project is running late. Their technology costs keep growing. They are too dependent on one developer. The leadership team is questioning whether they are getting the right advice. Or a transaction, investment or business change has exposed technology risks that nobody is quite sure how to assess.

That is exactly what this conversation is for.

Book a confidential discussion with me and give me an overview of what is happening. I can help you understand the technology issues, the questions worth asking and whether your client would benefit from independent technology advice.

When It Makes Sense to Have a Conversation

You might want to talk when a client:

  • is concerned about a software project that is late, over budget or struggling to deliver
  • depends heavily on one developer, CTO or technology supplier
  • is making a significant technology investment
  • needs an independent view of their technology strategy or delivery approach
  • is preparing for an acquisition, investment, sale or due diligence process
  • has technology leadership concerns but is unsure what needs to change
  • is experiencing tension between management and its internal or external technology team
  • needs senior technology guidance without employing a full-time CTO
  • has a technology problem that falls outside your own area of expertise

You do not need to know which service is appropriate. That can come later.

A Conversation Before an Introduction

Sometimes the most useful first step is for you and me to talk before involving your client.

You can explain the situation at a high level, without sharing information you are not comfortable disclosing. I can help you think through the likely technology issues and whether an introduction would be worthwhile.

If I am not the right person to help, I will say so.

There is no expectation that every conversation becomes an engagement.

Independent Advice That Complements Your Own

My role is not to replace the relationship you have with your client.

I work alongside lawyers, accountants, CFO advisers, business consultants, investors, M&A advisers, software agencies and IT providers when their clients need an independent senior technology perspective.

I do not sell software, managed IT services or development teams. My role is to provide independent advice and help the client make better technology decisions.

That independence is particularly useful when there are competing views, difficult delivery problems or significant commercial decisions involved.

What Happens Next?

The process is deliberately simple.

We start with a confidential conversation about the situation. If there appears to be a good reason for me to speak with your client, we agree on the most appropriate way to make the introduction.

From there, I can have an initial conversation with the client and recommend a sensible next step.

That might be a focused advisory session, an independent review, technology due diligence, fractional CTO support or simply some guidance on what they should do next.

There is no need to turn a relatively small problem into a giant consulting project. Sometimes a second opinion is all that is required.

You do not need to prepare a detailed brief. A simple explanation of what is happening and what concerns you or your client is enough to get the conversation started.
